We have known for some time that chocolate milk – made from cow’s milk – is a good recovery product. It contains important proteins, is liquid, full of BCAAs (the amino acids necessary for muscle recovery) and even electrolytes (such as sodium and potassium) can be found in chocolate milk.

For people without lactose intolerance, a glass of chocolate milk after a workout is a good way to quickly get all these substances in.

That’s right chocolate milk helps your protein recovery, of course. After intensive endurance or strength training, a guideline of 0.8-1.2 grams of carbohydrates per kilogram of body weight and 0.2-0.4 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight applies within 2 hours after exercise.

For someone weighing 70 kg, this equates to 56-84 grams of carbohydrates and 14-28 grams of protein. It is important to keep the intake of fats as low as possible. These have no function for recovery after exercise. You do not need any special shakes or drinks to get your carbohydrates and proteins, you can easily get this from your regular diet.

Although the amount of carbohydrates and proteins correspond to the recommendations, I will not quickly recommend chocolate milk as a recovery drink. It may be an easy way to get your carbohydrates and proteins. But you need to drink a lot of chocolate milk for it, which will provides lot of calories.

However, because you drink it instead of eating it, you experience less satiety than a recovery meal with the same nutrients. In short, not useful if you also want to watch your weight. In addition, the carbohydrates present are mainly sugars. The brown drink even contains more sugar than a glass of cola.

Nutritional Value of Chocolate Milk

A frequently heard comment is that chocolate milk has a perfect ratio of nutrients to serve as a recovery drink. I looked up the nutritional value of regular chocolate milk and light chocolate milk:

Best Cheese for Pizza: Different types of cheese for Pizza

0

Everyone likes to eat pizza, but unfortunately it is all too often eaten as a filler. Pizza is a dish that you have to enjoy, something that you have to taste and that you can share. Comparing pizza from the supermarket with what a good pizzeria serves you is difficult.

Let’s start with the most important thing about a pizza! Yes its cheese but what is the best cheese for pizza? In addition to the tomato sauce that is mainly used, it is good to start with cheese. This way you make a nice layer that, when you pull the pizza apart, creates delicious strings.

There are many types of cheese and not every type of cheese is suitable for a pizza. It is wise to use a different cheese for the bottom than for the topping. This must be a cheese that melts well so that cheese can be found all over the pizza. It is also best to use grated cheese for this. In the store you can buy pizza cheese that is well suited as a pizza topping.

Many things need to make an amazing testy pizza, but choosing the perfect cheese is the best secret of it. We are going revealed our research to see which cheeses will give best look and taste to your pizza.

What is The Best Cheese for Pizza?

Which cheese you put on your pizza is mainly a matter of taste. You can experiment with this to your heart’s content and discover your favorites. Although I also like to vary with different types

The secret to a tasty pizza is in the dough: it must be well risen, so that it is light and can be baked crispy, but at the same time it remains tender. I always use fresh yeast, semola (wheat semolina) and cheese.

It is good to use different cheese for the toppings. Think for example of Mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, Italian cheese or Cheddar. Goat cheese and blue cheese are also very tasty to put on a pizza. The most important thing here is that you just experiment and see what you like best.

Not every cheese is suitable, for example, there are cheeses that are very salty, such as Parmesan and blue cheese. You should not use too much of this as this makes the pizza very salty. And that is of course not good for health.

If you want to prevent the pizza from getting dirty, it is best to use the above cheeses. And it is often better to use a little of several types of cheese than a lot of one type. It is always good to pay attention to the amount of cheese in your pizza toppings.

Too much cheese on a pizza is always wrong. It is a product that combines the flavors and should therefore not dominate. There we going to know which cheese is best suited to put on your pizza?

Mozzarella Cheese

Mozzarella belongs on the pizza! Look at the classic margarita pizza with tomato, mozzarella and basil. These three simple ingredients make the pizza. After baking, the mozzarella provides those characteristic melted cheese threads when you grab a slice of pizza. Love it! The taste is quite neutral. For pizza I prefer to use cow’s milk mozzarella and not buffalo mozzarella.

Buffalo mozzarella contains a lot of moisture and you would rather not want this on your pizza. I always pat the mozzarella dry in a piece of kitchen paper first and then tear it into strips by hand. If you tear it along with the wire instead of cutting it, it will release less moisture during baking.

Traditionally made from buffalo milk, mozzarella comes from the campanile, the southern Italian region around Naples. The research was carried out by the university in Auckland, New Zealand.

Mozzarella excels not only because of the taste, but also because of the “perfect way of melting” and the interaction with the other ingredients. As long as it has mozzarella on it, other cheeses such as Gorgonzola can be used in combination on a good pizza.

Difference Between High and Low Moisture Mozzarella Cheese

When making pizza with mozzarella cheese, you can choose between high and low moisture. High moisture mozzarella has a very short shelf life and has to be used within the first day of being made.

Low moisture mozzarella is also offered, giving it a longer shelf life with a saltier, more dense flavor than high moisture mozzarella. This low moisture component also helps it melt faster when being baked.

Using Mozzarella Cheese on Pizza

You can use mozzarella as the base cheese by itself for margarita, Neapolitan, and Greek pizzas. If used alone, make sure to slice it thinly and drain any excess moisture from the cheese. Because mozzarella is so versatile, it is the number one choice of cheese to be added to a cheese blend.

Mozzarella can be blended with provolone to make a traditional cheese or pepperoni pizza and many other kinds.

Parmesan Cheese

Parmesan is a real seasoning. This Italian hard cheese has a slightly spicy and delicately salty taste. Usually use it as a seasoning and don’t use too much of it. The real parmigiana is quite pricey. A cheaper alternative and also tasty is Grana Padano or Pecorino.

Adding Parmesan Cheese to Pizza

If you are a cheese lover, Parmesan cheese is probably one of your favorite go-to cheeses to sprinkle on top of your pizza. This cheese will accentuate the taste of other fresh and flavorful toppings.

Cheddar Cheese

Cheddar is another favorite cheese you going to love because of sharp taste that it has. Although people don’t tend to associate cheddar cheese alone as a cheese to be used on pizza, it is in fact an ingredient in a lot of pizza cheese blends.

Cheddar is a good addition to any pie because its small elasticity means it doesn’t blister as easily as mozzarella. Also, if you choose a sharper cheddar cheese that has a deep orange tint, it will add color to your pizza.

Parmigiano and Pecorino

Parmigiano and pecorino (hard sheep’s cheese) are often used as a seasoning in Italian cuisine. And that is no different with the pizza. You can easily grate both cheeses over your pizza. You can do that before baking.

If you want to give your pizza something extra, then it is nice to sprinkle some shavings or flakes of one of these cheeses over your pizza after baking. That always looks great with Parmigiano and Pecorino.

Other Types of Cheese for Pizza

The more types of cheese, the less of everything you use. The amount of cheese and cheese that I use also depends on the other ingredients that I put on the pizza. Other cheeses that I like on pizza and use regularly are:

  • Young matured Gouda cheese: This cheese melts nicely on the pizza and gives it a delicious taste. Young matured cheese, together with mozzarella and Parmesan, gives a nice basic taste to your pizza. In principle you do not have to use any other cheese.
  • Matured or old (goat) cheese: I sometimes use this instead of Parmesan. These cheeses are also a bit saltier, so you don’t have to use much of it, just like Parmesan.
  • Soft goat cheese: Delicious on a pizza with crème fraîche, zucchini, thyme and honey.
  • Gorgonzola: A soft Italian blue cheese with a creamy, salty and spicy taste. This cheese is quite salty, so adjust your other cheeses accordingly.
  • Talegio: An Italian soft rind cheese with a fairly strong aroma and slightly sweet taste.

Of course there are more cheeses you can use on your pizza. This is just a list of my favorites at the moment.

Be Careful with Salt!

Some cheeses such as Parmesan, matured and mature cheese and most blue vein cheeses are quite salty. So make sure you don’t combine too many salty cheeses on your pizza. Always try to find a good cheese mix of mild and spicy.

Wrap-Up!

Now that you know best cheese for pizza by knowing characteristics of each cheese type and the flavors of pizza. You can begin experimenting by adding in some specialty cheeses. Whether you’re making a pizza as a staple on your menu, it’s important to find a cheese that works for your pizza! Enjoy making wonderful pizza.

Can Dogs Eat Popcorn: Is Popcorn Good or Bad for Dogs?

0

What can a dog eat and what not? Our dogs are different from their owners. Products with seemingly harmless to us will be very dangerous for our four-legged friend. Like the food popcorn with salt! That means can dogs eat popcorn? Well, read this post till the end we should figure out it.

Popcorn is a form of corn that many people love, but not everything that people enjoy is safe for dogs to consume. Knowing if popcorn is a safe treat for dogs and if so how much is too much can help prevent unnecessary problems with your dog.

What is Popcorn?

Popcorn is popped corn, this is corn that is specially designed for this. The corn grain consists of a shell with starch in the core. Before the corn kernel pops, it has a moisture content of about 10-15%, when the kernel is heated, the water present in the core of the corn kernel evaporates to steam.

This steam cannot escape through the shell, which was almost completely seated, causing the pressure in the grain to rise. Most of the people like popcorn flavor and love to eat but can dogs eat popcorn?

Nutritional Value of Popcorn:

Popcorn is popped corn, the nutrients it contains are:

  • Vitamin-B6
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Magnesium

Shapes of Popcorn

Popcorn is a special designed form of corn but there are actually two different types of popcorn.

Butterfly:

Butterfly popcorn is the classic spread-out snowflake core used in movie theaters and microwave-ready varieties of popcorn. Within the butterfly type there are also different types of kernels that produce slightly different colors and sizes of popcorn.

Mushroom:

Mushroom popcorn is a rounder, baseball-like or brain-looking wick often used for coated popcorn because of its more even surface.

In addition to the two different types of popcorn, there are also different ways that popcorn is popped.

  • Microwave: This is a common method of popping popcorn because it is fast and there are so many flavor options. Microwaves use small particles called microwaves, which are similar to radio waves, to heat up moisture in popcorn to make it pop. Oil and various chemicals are most commonly used in microwave popcorn.
  • Air: Special air poppers can be purchased. They use hot air and steam to pop popcorn. This method does not require any added oils or chemicals, making it the healthiest way to pop popcorn.
  • Stove-Top: Popcorn kernels are placed in a saucepan, skillet or wok and heated with oil to make popcorn on the stove.
  • Electric: Similar to how popcorn is popped on the stove-top, electric popcorn poppers use oil and heat, but also have an automatic stirrer to keep the popcorn moving so the kernels don’t burn.
  • Direct Fire: Campfires and grills produce fire that heats up popcorn kernels, making them pop from the use of oil in aluminum foil.

Can Dogs Eat Popcorn? Is Dangerous for Your Dog?

Popcorn is often a favorite snack in the cinema, but it is also quite an experience for children to make it themselves. You can eat popcorn both salty and sweet, even natural is an option, only then the taste experience will be a lot lower than when you add salt or sweetener to it.

What if your dog gets a fallen piece in its mouth, is this harmful or is it not harmful? Should you go to a vet, these are all questions we can imagine coming to mind.

As stated earlier, popcorn is popped corn. Corn in itself is not dangerous for a dog, so not even in the form of popcorn.

Just make sure that the popcorn is plain, salt is harmful for a dog and too much sugar is not beneficial for a dog. But let’s be honest: who likes to eat plain popcorn without flavor?

The dangerous thing for dogs is the large amounts of fat and salt they consume through popcorn. This leads to dehydration in the short term and obesity in the long term.

In addition, the unpopped, hard corn kernels are also dangerous for your dog, because they can seriously damage the teeth and gums.

Health Benefits of Popcorn For Dogs

Popcorn can be a healthy snack for dogs because of the variety of vitamins and minerals it contains, along with some fiber. Calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, vitamins B6, A, E and K, folic acid (B9), niacin (B3), riboflavin (B2), thiamin (B1) and pantothenic acid (B5) are all natural in regular popcorn.

While these vitamins and minerals may not make up a large percentage of a dog’s nutritional needs, it’s good to know that popcorn is a healthy snack rather than nutritional deficiency. However, it is important to remember that preparing the popcorn and any additives or flavorings can negate the health benefits that popcorn can bring to a dog.

Potential Health Risks with Popcorn For Dogs

Popcorn, while healthy when it’s plain and air-popped, isn’t healthy when salt, butter, and other flavorings are added. Microwaveable popcorn is one of the least healthy types of popcorn and should not be given to dogs due to the chemicals and fats added to it.

As a rule of thumb, any popcorn with added oils and things should be kept away from a dog as these ingredients can cause problems for your dog.

Potential problems feeding your dog buttery or flavored popcorn include diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration from excessive salt, kidney damage from excessive and prolonged salt consumption, and weight gain.

Temporary and self-limiting diarrhea and vomiting, which are not uncommon with sudden dietary changes, are the most common symptoms in a dog who has enjoyed buttered popcorn, especially if it was more than a few pieces.

Your Dog is Simply Not Made For This

There is a difference in which the dog’s body breaks down certain substances. For example, the sweetener xylitol (from chewing gum and gingerbread, for example) or the bitter thebromine (from chocolate) can poison your dog. While we humans have no problem with this.

Before we go to the overview of dangerous and non-hazardous products, we will first briefly focus on such an emergency.

How Can You Safely Share Popcorn With Your Dog?

Once you get your vet’s approval to share some popcorn with your pup, you have to make sure you prepare and serve it safely.

Air-popping your popcorn is simple and quick. You can do this using a popcorn machine, the microwave, or even the stove-top.

Make sure to keep the popcorn you feed your dog plain, without any additives like salt or butter, to keep it healthy enough for them to eat. Take a few pieces from the popcorn you prepare for yourself and make sure there are no uncooked kernels before giving them to your dog.

You may also feed them something else besides popcorn that might be a healthier or even better option for them to have.

The Bottom Line

If you want to take the guesswork out of what foods your dog can eat like can dogs eat popcorn? Then you should try ordering fresh, custom meals for your dog. If your dog isn’t lactose intolerant, then plain Greek yogurt, popcorn or cottage cheese can be enjoyed in small amounts, too.

Can Dogs Eat Yogurt? Is Yogurt Safe For Dogs?

0

Yogurt is packed with nutrients such as calcium, proteins and probiotics that help support digestion. Yogurt is a nutritious food that has been consumed by humans for hundreds of years. But can dogs eat yogurt? we are going to know the answer by this post.

What is Yogurt?

yogurt

Yogurt is an acidic milk product, because lactic acid bacteria are added to the milk. This causes the milk to acidify and a fermented product (melds, yeasts or bacteria are added to a product).

During this process, the taste, structure or appearance is changed. In this way yogurt is made from milk. The yogurt for sale in the supermarket has matured between four and five hours.

Overall, it is indeed possible to share yogurt with your favourite four-legged friend, but vets warn that just because it’s safe doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for every dog.

Nutrients in yogurt:

  • Protein
  • Calcium
  • Vitamin B2, B6, B12
  • Phosphorus
  • Folic acid
  • Zinc

Can dogs eat yogurt?

Can dogs eat yogurt? Yogurt contains lactose, which can be dangerous for dogs if they consume too much. If your dog has eaten yogurt, that’s okay, but avoid eating too much.

Small dogs and puppies are more likely to suffer from the effects of too much lactose and develop diarrhea and other complaints. Preferably do not give yogurt to your dog or puppy.

Yogurt to which colors and flavors have been added is completely out of the question.

Is yogurt dangerous for a dog?

Yogurt may seem nice to your dog, but in the body of dogs, the lactose in yogurt cannot be broken down properly. What is safe is natural yogurt with live fermentation.

In this type of yogurt, the lactose has already been converted to other products and is not harmful. Certainly with puppies who are still very young and do not have a mother dog, it can be tempting to put down a bowl of yogurt to replace the mother.

However, there is a good chance that the puppy will get diarrhea. Optionally, you can replace yogurt with special dog milk powder and dilute it with some water.

Consequences of eating yogurt for a dog

Dogs need the enzyme lactose to digest yogurt. However, this enzyme is not produced in many dogs, so animals may experience problems after eating a lot of yogurt. The consequences of eating too much yogurt in dogs are similar to a food intolerance.

Many types of yogurt contain sugars and other additives that are not suitable for dogs. In fact, an artificial sweetener like stolidity can lead to a rapid drop in blood sugar and potentially be deadly.

Symptoms if a dog has eaten too much yogurt

Do you suspect your dog has had too much yogurt? Then look out for the following symptoms and signs:

  • Vomit
  • Diarrhea

The severity of the complaints can vary at a time and do not occur immediately after eating the yogurt. Does your dog suffer from a food allergy? Then there is a response almost immediately.

What to do if your dog has too much yogurt?

Do you think your dog has eaten too much yogurt and is therefore suffering from diarrhea? Then dehydration is a risk, if in doubt, contact your vet and let your dog drink plenty of water.

Yogurt as probiotics

An additional advantage of yogurt is the lactic acid bacteria that remain in the yogurt. These can give a boost to the intestinal flora if it is disturbed. The effect is partly dependent on the lactic acid bacteria used.

Types of Yogurt

There are some different types of yogurt in this time. This is separate from the different flavor variations, in which sugar and flavorings are usually added and sometimes with fruit.

The flavored yogurt is not recommended at all times. The additives to the yogurt are not good for your dog!

But there are also many variations in white yogurt. The old-fashioned Dutch yogurt, for example, has a low-fat, a half-full and a full version. These terms say something about the fat content. For example, the low-fat yogurt contains less than 0.5% fat, the semi-skimmed, 1.5 to 1.8% and the full-fat yogurt at least 3%.

The foreign variants such as the Greek or Turkish yogurt usually contain 10% or more fat. This is because the yogurt is thickened further or because substances are added to it.

Thickened yogurt with a high fat percentage or additives is not suitable for your dog.

Better Organic yogurt?

Organic products are in principle free from residues of antibiotics, fertilizers and pesticides. That is certainly an advantage. In addition, the preparation of organic yogurt is usually just a bit “old-fashioned” than that of conventional yogurt. As a result, the percentage of healthy bacteria in organic yogurt is often higher.

That’s why dog can have yogurt!

Are you exited to know about can dogs eat yogurt? If you choose normal yogurt with less than 3.5% fat, you have a healthy and tasty snack for most dogs. The lactic acid bacteria in the yogurt support the intestinal flora and they affect the taste of the blood and pH of the skin, making your dog less attractive to fleas.

If your dog is extremely intolerant to lactose, it is better not to take the risk. Kefir can usually be a good alternative.

Give your dog yogurt

Giving your dog yogurt can sound like a healthy snack. We humans often drink a cup of dairy after dinner, or during breakfast. You have to pay close attention to your calcium balance, right?

But with so many products, we forget that the dog’s digestive system is different from ours.

Many dogs worldwide eat with the pot or feed on what can be found in our waste. They have been living side by side with people for so long that we almost believe that the dog should also have breakfast with a chocolate spread sandwich.

But dogs, both tame and feral, are descended from the wolf. This predator is what we call a real meat eater, adapting its entire body to the mere eating of animal tissue.

A direct and clearly visible indication for this is the dog and wolf teeth. This consists of twelve incisors, four canines, ten tubercles and sixteen cut teeth. In other words: teeth for tearing and cutting, not for chewing.

The gastrointestinal system also does not contain an extensive route to allow vegetable food to be digested and absorbed by the body. There are no bacteria present that can break down cellulose. Cellulose is a substance that is present in the cell walls of vegetable fibers.

Bottom Line

Hope we got the answer that can dogs eat yogurt? while you want to limit your dog’s “human” food, yogurt falls under the “ten percent” rule often used by vets, that is, treats like yogurt don’t exceed 10 percent of the calories your dog consumes every day. As such, factors such as your dog’s size and weight play a role in the amount of yogurt they can tolerate, as well as any underlying health issues.

Overall, adding a tablespoon to his or her food is likely to be a safe and welcome addition to your dog, who will at least reap some of the health benefits of yogurt while adding a new and exciting texture to their meal.

Now we can say that very small amounts of yogurt do not cause serious complaints. However, this is not to say that it is good for your dog’s health.

Can You Freeze Cottage Cheese? Does it Go Bad?

0

Cottage cheese reigns supreme when it comes to choosing healthy cheeses. Those soft white curds have a pleasing and mild flavor that not only tastes great on its own, but is a perfect ingredient in a variety of recipes. Because it’s so versatile, you tend to find cottage cheese sold in sizable tubs.

The expectation is that you’re going to go through it long before the expiration date comes to pass. But, what if you don’t expect to eat quite that much? Can you freeze it to keep it around longer?

Absolutely, cottage cheese can be frozen! You probably anticipated that, though, given the liquid content of this soft cheese. However, just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should. To help you make you decision, lets ask and answer a few more questions relevant to this issue.

Why Would You Want to Freeze Cottage Cheese?

The first and most practical reason is the one we already mentioned — you don’t want what you have to expire. Cottage cheese is what’s called a fresh cheese. Those packages of cheese that say they were “aged?” The exact opposite of cottage cheese. Fresh cheese gains no benefit from sitting around. It doesn’t ripen, it spoils.

How much time does it have? An unopened package lasts roughly 3-5 days past the sell-by date. An opened package will only be good for 5 to 7 days, roughly 1 week. To ensure you get the maximum time, you’ll want to place it in the coldest part of your refrigerator.

Still, that’s a relatively short window, especially if you’ve purchased a large container. There’s only one way to make it last longer, and that’s freezing it.

How Do You Freeze Cottage Cheese?

So, do you just toss it in the freezer? That depends. Have you already opened the package it came in? Do you want to thaw it all out when next you need it or only thaw out one portion at a time?

For both the best results and your convenience, consider the following before initiating the deep freeze.

Whole Fat Freezes Best.

Consider this when purchasing your cottage cheese to begin with. Low-fat and skim options have their own benefits nutritionally, but if you’re going to buy those types, buy them in lower quantities so you can finish them within the natural expiration period.

The higher levels of milk fats present in whole cottage cheese help it to retain more of its flavor and texture through the freezing process.

Air Tight Container.

If you’re freezing an unopened package, you automatically meet this requirement. If you’ve opened a resealable package, you can still use it, but you should also seal it within a freezer bag to be safe.

Why is this so important? If you have less than an air tight seal, the cheese loses moisture into the surrounding air within the freezer. This will dry it out ,and invite freezer burn, essentially ruining it.

Separate Into Portions.

This is a tip for anyone who knows how much cottage cheese they are going to need for a particular recipe. You can separate it into portions by dividing them into a muffin tin, sliding that into a freezer bag, and freezing it that way.

You can also separate it each portion into its own small baggy. Either way, you can pull out just one portion when required, allowing you to thaw it quickly.

After seeing to those considerations, the rest is simple. If you’re using a freezer bag, make sure to squeeze out as much excess air as possible when sealing it. Then you place it into the freezer and let the cold do it’s work.

Freezing cottage cheese extends it’s life up to 6 months! While that’s not forever, it’s 24 times longer than normal. But, it’s not without a cost.

What Happens to Frozen Cottage Cheese?

The problem with freezing a soft cheese is that the process changes both the texture and the flavor. Once thawed, frozen cottage cheese is like a watery mush. It’s no longer suitable to spoon up and eat as is. That does not make it useless, however!

First off, it loses none of its nutritional value. It’s still just as healthy to consume, sporting an impressive nutritional profile. A single serving offers up hearty helpings of calcium, folate, phosphorus, riboflavin, selenium, and vitamin B12, all at under 200 calories — 70% of which are protein!

Wrap-up!

Now we are clear about can you freeze cottage cheese? but remember, cottage cheese is versatile. As often as it stands alone, it is used as an ingredient in other dishes, and the frozen variant works just as well in these circumstances.

So, while it’s true you won’t be spooning the thawed stuff directly into your mouth, you can still add it to your sauces, cake mixes and lasagnas and suffer no loss of nutrition or flavor.
